clean install of winxp , on a Vista system

Hi Guys, is it possible to install win xp over a version of vista. I have the feeling it will not allow me, but I hope I am wrong. After I solve my partition in my other post, I shall try going back to win xp . Any advice, is appreciated. Thank you.
