we need to solve the mystery of the yellow exclamation points....select them and remove them in device manager

Because this is a multi-function printer, there are multiple drivers for it. Using the UNINSTALL function you mentioned earlier, remove the printer again, unplug your printer cable, remove the unknown devices.

Reboot. Do not do anything. See if WIndows attempts to install something.

As for hijack

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: ToolHelper - {CDEEC43D-3572-4E95-A2A5-F519D29F00C0} - C:\PROGRA~1\ADVANC~1\TOOLBAR.DLL (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TB_setup] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\TB_SETUP.EXE /dcheck

Check and Fix the following

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: ToolHelper - {CDEEC43D-3572-4E95-A2A5-F519D29F00C0} - C:\PROGRA~1\ADVANC~1\TOOLBAR.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TB_setup] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\TB_SETUP.EXE /dcheck
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stcinstaller] c:\installer\id53.exe

(You still have a trojan trying to reload
http://www.trendmicr...ROJ_SCTHOUGHT.L )

After running hijackkthis,
Visit http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
and run the online virus scran

And this makes no sense:
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [GrpConv] grpconv.exe -o

This was used when updating from windows 3.1 to window 95

I did just you had told me, but no luck. Windows did not attempt to install anything.

However everytime I reinstall, windows always builds the driver database whenever it detects the new hardware. I am guessing it is installing the drivers from the System files. I even downloaded the latest driver from the Lexmark website and installed it through the "run" mode in Start>> Run.

It installed with the same error message "Add ( ) Monitor failed - parameter is incorrect" . However neither any document not the test page prints.

I am totally lost. If someone can give me some other solution, I would be grateful. And gerry thanks a lot for all your time and effort in troubleshooting my problem. If you think of any other solution, that would be great.

I'm sorry, I cannot keep track of all these threads anymore.....

In device manager, are there any unknown devices left?

And yes, windows would simply grab the installation info it needs from the installation files on the system.

Will anything else work in the USB ports?
