So anyway, I've been having random popups recently, Their getting really annoying and i think theyre viruses or something like that. Ive run Mcafee and Windows Defender, and they cleaned up some viruses, but the pop ups were still coming. I have a smitfraudfix which is some log i found that i should do while searching other forums. I did a Hijackthis log. Here it is: Btw, im kinda new to this, so im any help would be appreciated. Back again, so to work. Also you have remnants of Norton on your system we will remove that later.

This is a long fix so I would recommend that you copy and paste this post to a text file for reference as you will be offline at times

FIRST

Rename HIJACKTHIS to Gotcha by right clicking the Icon for HJT and selecting rename. The reason for this is that some malware is hiding from HJT

THEN

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.


Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please re-open HiJackThis (Gotcha) and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

NEXT

Download then run SuperAntispyware

On the first page select Check for Update
On completion select SCAN YOUR COMPUTER
On the next page select COMPLETE SCAN and tick ALL your drives
The next stage will take a while as your entire drive(s), memory and registry are scanned
When it has completed click NEXT
The next screen shows the problems found click OK
On the next screen place a tick against all items and select NEXT

Now to get the log Go to the PREFERENCES button on the right bottom
Select the STATISTICS/LOG tab
Highlight the scan just completed and click VIEW LOG
This will open a notepad text file copy and paste this to your next reply


FINALLY

I will also need an uninstall list

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

I had a problem doing the kill box thing. I couldn't paste all of them from clipboard like i did before. When i searched for the file manually, it didnt seem to be there either. I can copy each file one by one and delete and restart every time. Should I do that?

Well done your log now appears clean, you can delete the following programmes as you will no longer need them: Smitfraudfix and Killbox I would recommend keeping SUPERAntiSpyware as it is free and I find it very good. For general use you only need run a quick scan, not the full scan as it is faster and will alert you if a deeper scan is required.

You still have remnants of symantec/norton on your system, I would suggest re-running the removal tool


Now to get you off to a good start we will re-set your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your your restore point but this is my method:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
2. On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
3. Click NEXT
4. Enter a name e.g. Clean
5. Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
3. Click OK
4. The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
5. Select the More Options Tab.
6. At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
7. Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done
