well...... did as you said. when I restarted and went to my email, it instructed that I MUST have the most current flash player installed to access my email program....

I had gone to Adobe trying to find the flash player 8, but could not. At least not the free download version. So now, I am back to square one, with flash player 9 installed once again.

I still cannot download the info I want, and Yahoo Browser tells me it has to close..... again.

should I laugh or cry?

apparently the newest version....9,0,28,0 is what I have installed... but I see on that page - filehippo.com - that they also have version 8 (8.0.24 and 8.0.22) which is what rushin1 told me to download instead of version 9.... what do you suggest?

Can you download Tune Up first, then uninstall flash, then run through this, then try the download from file hippo

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then from system tools, run disc defragmenter.

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD

Windows File Protection will show a blue onscreen progress bar, when the bar goes, reboot

If you do not have an XP CD you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD

Download and install Tune Up 2007 Trial

Run Tune Up Disc Clean Up

Run Tune Up Registry Clean Up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, which will take a few minutes and need a reboot. You should disable the antivirus programme to run this

Check the anti virus is running after the reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

Keith.....

I did the 'prefetch' thing in the beginning.... btw, can you tell me what 'prefetch' means?

I can do the defrag, etc.

I do not have the XP CD... my computer is a Dell, and was preprogrammed when I got it. (a gift)

***I have found a CD for Office XP!!!! (must have gotten it from ???? - don't remember!!)[/color]
I have downloaded SP2.

I will go ahead with your instructions - but won't be able to until tomorrow.

presupposing that all goes as it should (i.e. I can actually perform all the actions you have outlined) do I then have to reinstall Adobe Flash?

Exactly why do I need to use the XP CD?

Will you be around tomorrow should I have any other questions?

Click prefetch in post 22

Same for any underlined ones

If sfc wants to replace files they wil be on the XP CD, though you can use a borrowed same version CD

If the mail programme wants it, then yes, or use another mail programme??

I will get the mail notifier if you post anything in this thread

Thanks so much for putting up with me!

The info on prefetch was great!

Hate to change my email program, as I've used it for ages. It recently had an upgrade that I suppose needs Flash 9 to operate all it's 'stuff'.

Not sure what time it is in England now... but either have a great day - or ???. It's been years since I traveled overseas so I've forgotten the time difference. Used to go to the Farnborough Air Show a lot, as well as general travel in London.

Thanks again, :whistling: will keep you posted on what happens!

Hi rushin1nd!!

You know, it could be something with Incredimail - or the recent update... something to check on, although the upgrade needs flash 9 to operate. Confusing

I have not gone any further with anything in Keith's post #22... but will try it all out tomorrow.

May contact Incredimail first to see if anyone else is reporting problems since the upgrade.

Will keep you and Keith up to date on this situation... I sure appreciate both of you helping me out.

Just wish I really knew what all this was happening for in the first place!

Later...

Thanks.... will do the tune up.

I receive mail through Yahoo and it is then transferred to Incredimail.

I am writing to Incredimail now to see if they have anyone else reporting problems with their computers.
Will keep you posted.

As you say (with any luck, LOL) my problem will be resolved.

Goodnight!
