I reinstalled XP on a HP laptop with a AMD Athlon 64 bit processor, and according to the Microsoft Post you have to contact the manufacturer but its 6 months out of warranty and they won't talk to me, though its "their" hardware problem that is causing the OS not to reinstall.

OK. I read the article and it was just as I suspected. We need to
HAL driver for the AMD processor during setup. This is the "Wintel"
relationship I was talking about. If the laptop had a Intel chip then
would work just fine but Microsoft makes it harder for the AMD
since it is in competition with Intel.
