We were too exciting yesterday after my daughter decided to turn the personal
firewall off. She visits facebook.com everyday for her blog. Suddently the laptop
hung for the first time on it. She was quite upset.
There was one action we took. Not only to delete all the cookies and temp file
off line, I also physically cd to the "Temporary Internet Files" folder and totally
removed all the files. (When you do "Delete Cookies..." and "Delete Files...",
there are still some files linger.)
Then she disabled the CA firewall without my acknowledgement, the access
resumed and Toshiba was not hung after rebooted. We then re-viisited other
web sites I listed, they seem all OK now (so far).
We are now switching back to have the firewall enabled and turn it off only when
visiting these sites.
That's why I stated "accidentally" about this finding, and still am not 100% sure if
this is the cause of the hang. I am not convinced, and will continue to monitor
its status.
Could it be an update from CA? I don't know. The security software connects and
checks its update automatically when we power the laptop and get online everyday.
Same situation to the SpySweeper from Webroot in Toshiba laptop.
The result is hilarious, but illogical.
