I have Windows XP SP(2) and all the updates etc, but I need to format my PC and re-install the XP OS on :C how do I do that? here is what I did and it didn't work; Right click Local Disk /:C>Format...>Clicked Quick Format>and my error is "Windows was unable to complete the format", now..I have no idea what I'm doing I'll be honest with you but it doesn't look good to me:s

Can someone give me a walkthrough not a lengthy one just a quick step by step in a few words so I can format my pc and re-install XP on C. If you need more info tell me.

thanks I will, but I have one last question, I want to buy one of those monster 500GB hard drives how do I know which is right for my pc? my current hard drive is a 69.9 GB hard drive do you know? or do I need to create a new thread for that question?

You should post that in the System Building and Upgrading forum. I have no idea if you have a SATA drive, IDE ATA drive, or what. Would it be a external for storage, or internal

well I have a new problem, this is the error I get and the guide doesn't say what to do with this one.

"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the verion on the CD.

Warning:If you decide to delete the newer version of windows that is currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered."

so what should I do? go to my control pannel and click remove on all the updates? :s

You aren't running this from windows, are you?

Delete the partition, formatt the new one, and try again.

You said you do not mind losing all your files.
