Hi. I want to add some RAM to my computer, but I don't know which type of RAM to buy. I've tried the Crucial website, but I can't work that out either. (Hear me out here, I know the website's supposed to be idiot-proof but...)

Check out this page here: http://www.crucial.c...p...o&submit=Go

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo 600, but when it asks for the model it presents me with a weird selection of stuff like "600 (RDRAM)". I don't know which one to click. :S

And then, that scanner thing can't detect my system or something. It doesn't work for some reason.

So, can anybody help me out? Please? I'm really stuck. I could open up my computer and take a picture of one of the modules if that'd help, but I'd rather that was a last-resort option.

Download and run Belarc Advisor. It will give you all the info on your comp, including the ram installed.

Okay, just downloading this now. I won't be able to run it now since the computer's being used.

Sorry I've been ages replying, I lost some of my recent emails and couldn't find this topic again since you can't search for anything under 4 letters (RAM). :S

You could search for "Upgrading RAM"

I did, it said that one of the words or terms or something I searched for was under four letters.

I didn't search for it with the quotes though. Maybe that would've helped.

See what you mean - the Scaleo 600 can take one of 3 different types of ram (DDR, SDRAM or RDRAM).

You will probably need to run something like Belarc advisor, as previously suggested, in order to determine which one you need.

Once you know, you can then select the correct option in Crucial website & find the list of compatible memory for your system. Failing that, have you tried using Crucials system scanner to determine which type you have?

Where does the Berlarc thingy tell you the type of RAM? There's a section to the right that's titled "Memory Modules", but all it says is...

512 Megabytes Installed Memory

Slot 'A0' has 256 MB
Slot 'A1' is Empty
Slot 'A2' has 256 MB
Slot 'A3' is Empty

It doesn't mention DDR, SDRAM or RDRAM anywhere on the page actually.

Ok, that is interesting. Mine tells the type (DDR).
Lets try this next program.
EVEREST HOME from Majorgeeks.

After install, look under motherboard info, right side, ram slots.

Right. I've downloaded it and I'll try it later. The computer's in use at the moment (it's almost always in use, I'm glad I have a laptop).

Yeah, that Berlarc thing told me the type of RAM on my laptop no problem. I can't seem to find any clear information on the Scaleo 600 anywhere as there were two different types of models shipped I think, one used AMD processors, one used Intel processors. I'm not too sure though.

I'll post back later with the results of that everest thing. Thanks for the help so far. :whistling:

bmwboy: If you read the thread, you would see that he tried the scanner and it does not work for him/ her.

His model was built with 3 different types of ram. We are trying to figure out what he has.

Well, I managed to work out that I need DDR SDRAM (I think, check below please...), but does it say in there anywhere the maximum amount of RAM I can install?

Actually, hold on... I'll go to the crucial site and select DDR SDRAM and see if it says.

EDIT:
Okay, now I'm confused again. Do I select "Scaleo 600 (DDR) or "Scaleo 600 (PC133 SDRAM)"

:S

Argh, this was so much easier with every other computer I've bought RAM for.

Alright, I used your model number and did a Google search and went to crucial.com

With the comparisons, you have 4 slots that can hold up to 2gb.

Here is the link CRUCIAL.COM

Here is your MANUAL

Belarc advisor stated: 512 Megabytes Installed Memory

Slot 'A0' has 256 MB
Slot 'A1' is Empty
Slot 'A2' has 256 MB
Slot 'A3' is Empty

You have 2 empty slots.
Hope this helps
