I have a Toshiba satellite a15/s129 the hard drive died on it and I want to replace it. It's no longer under warranty and I want to get an OEM hard drive online. My question is, could I use my Toshiba recovery disc to install Windows XP on the new drive? I can't afford to buy a new copy of windows, and I don't want to spend the money on a hard drive if this won't work. Can anyone help me out?

I cannot guarantee it but most likely that will work. Toshiba does use tatooing of sorts but they do it to the mohterboard/bios so that the disks cannot be used on another machine. You should be able to replace the hard drive no problem. Just remeber to measure the dimensions of your drive and check the dimensions of any new drive you order... mostly it's thickness that is a concern as that is not exaclty standardized. Though if you get a new one it should fit.
