Hey guys,

I just bought a PC w/ Vista Business to support my customers. I have some batch files that i wrote in windows 2000. When i run them, it says it requires "Elevation". If i right click on them and run "As Administrator" it works fine.

Problem is, I AM a member of the Administrator group in the local groups. Shouldnt I be able to do whatever I want?

Please give me some insight. Thanks.

I find that to not have these problems I after first boot go into user and find the admin account that is disabled and enable that account and use it all the time. This is not recomnened for security by a lot of IT people but I have ran Vista like that from the first beta. I also delete the other account that has been created because when you enable the Admin account when you boot you will have a choice of your orginal account or the new enabled Admin account. Good Luckh it may help

I tried enabling the Local Admin account and I still get the same error:

C:\>ipconfig /release
The requested operation requires elevation.

My login is an admin also. I have to right click and "run as administrator". What else can i do?

Thanks for the help.

Try opening up the properties for the file and change the permission to give you as the administrater the right to open the file.

Glad to see you got it working I always enable the Admin account as soon as I have my new install booted up for the firt time . With all the version of Vista I have tested since Nov they say it is asking for trouble because the limited user account with Admin priviledges is the way to go for added security.
