Hi,

Somehow I have this thing on my computer called "TrustInPopups". When I open my web browser a little window comes up from my Norton Protection Center saying that TrustInPopups is a security risk


I went on the internet to search and sometimes when I click on a link, it goes to a different website. An example was when I types in "Norton TrustInPopups removal" The link on Yahoo said www.symantec.com, but when I clicked it, it went to a totally different site.

I ran a scan with Norton, Ad-Ware, and Spybot Search and Destory. They all found something. I went throught the steps to remove. Booted up my computer...........same problem.

I tried to contact Norton, so I went on the internet to fine the tech support number. I try to access the Norton website www.symantec.com, click it, I get redirected to www.trustcleaner.com What [bleep].



Anyway, where do I start so I can get this resolved?

• Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
• Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.

OK here is goes............

I did some research before I came here, so I don't know if this will help. But in my add/remove window I have something called "Trustin Contextual" that I can't remove. There was also a folder in my Program files that said Trustin, and it was something with a .dll on the end of it. I deleted it (I think)

Hi again,

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Hi,

I did all the things. Nothing came up in regards to a PendingFile thingy.

I also didn't receive anything that said Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' thingy either.

But when windows was shutting down, something came up that said that something could not be read followed by a bunch of numbers (it was too fast). I see that come up once in a while BEFORE I had problems, so I don't know if it has anything to do with the situation here.

1. Download ComboFix.exe using either of these links:

2. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts to allow the tool to run.

3. When it has finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log & a fresh HJT log in your next reply

Hi again,

Just to let you know, we had a bad snow storm here on the east coast and I'm away from my home computer. I will do all the required things and post back on Friday.

Also (I don't know if it matters), I went into my registry and did a search for

C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscoriezb.dll

They are all still there BUT! are not 'connected' to anything like "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE" or "O2 - BHO: Clicker Class - {631f7200-642e-11db-bd13-0800200c9a66} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscoriezb.dll" Just saying this just in case.

Finally, I've been very careful when surfing the web. Before when I used to put in dcrtv.com (it a local media website) or gamefaqs.com (video games) it would take me to a different site. I have not gone or will go to these websites until you say it's safe to do so.

Open HiJackThis and fix these:
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com (HKLM)

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Please post a new HJT log and the uninstall list.
