Anti-virus scan never finishes

Whenever I run an AVG Free virus scan, it scans but, at the end, it restarts the computer, and it leaves no record of the results or what was scanned. I think I was once able to successfully scan in parts, stopping the complete system scan every so often and then starting a new scan where the old one left off.
