There are currently many bugs with 2.2.1, too many for us to upgrade on a site this large. The main one being that the cookies do not work properly which forces most users to log in each time visiting the forum.
We have done extensive testing with the upgrade, as we do with all forum upgrades, and we decided it was best to wait until 2.2.2 comes out in the very near future. Again, that will be no leap also, we will do extensive testing on that before making any changes. When working with a ~4GB database, its best to be sure about something before making any changes.
We already have many mods in place to make things easier here. If you see anything in particular, we can entertain the idea, but rest assured that the admin team spends a lot of time researching mods and add-ons to make the site better already.

Let's not forget that upgrading to a new installation isn't cheap... I say that if it's not broken, don't fix it. The forum looks great right now, especially compared to the others out there (no offense to anyone who visits or owns one of those places). ScHwErV is right about the bugs too. There's too many right now that need to be worked on. It would be unsafe to upgrade now. Not to mention that it would take quite some time to have to upgrade everything so it would be compatible with the new version... Skins, mods, all that need to be upgraded when you install a new forum version. It's really just a big mess in the end
Perhaps one day admin will upgrade though, but it's a little too soon right now
