I have a Dell Dimension XPST500 Pentium 3 Windows 98. for the past two months I have been having the following problems: moving the mouse it will start clicking things and rearranging things by itself and accompanied by the computer freezing up. It doesn't not follow any particular pattern. sometimes it happens on start up, sometimes after a period of a couple hours. Nothing that indicates any particular source. I have defragged, run my SpyBot program and nothing helps or makes a difference. Does anyone have any suggestions on what my be happening and how I might fix it.

Thanks for you help in advance <_<

Welcome Zigmolio <_<

I suspect some type of Spyware or Virus/Worm may be responsible for this. Click on the HiJack This link in my signature, follow the directions and paste the log back in this post. Somebody will review it and instruct you on any changes needed.

Okay, you are dealing with a newbie here. I got the hijack this and ran a scan. When I went to save the log, it tells me that the file that I am trying to save it is not a valid font file. I am unsure as to what that means. Can you help me with this?

Thanks <_<

You didn't click the HiJack This link in my sig did you? <_<

"The Scan Button has a new Caption. Save Log. Click the Save Log button to create a file named Hijackthis.log. A dialog box will pop up. Use it to select the location where you will save the log. Close the program. Return to the Forum and reply to your original post. Open the Log in Notepad. Highlight the entire contents. Copy and paste the contents of the HijackThis log into your post.

Additional Copy and Paste Instructions
Open the text file. Go to the Toolbar of your text editor, Notepad for example and click Edit. Move the mouse down to Select All and click on Select All to highlight the text. Go back to Edit again and move the mouse down to Copy. Click Copy. Go to the Forum and reply to your original post. When the page opens, click on an empty space in the reply window with your mouse to set focus for the paste operation. Finally, hold down the Ctrl button and click the letter v on the keyboard to paste the text into your post."

That's an unusual problem. <_<

Try this, download TweakUI from Microsoft. Run it and there will be a "Repair Fonts" option.

Also, HiJack This is probably saving your log, you're just not able to view it. Look for a "hijackthis.log" file on your desktop, or where ever you choose to save it. If you can find this file, it can be attached to your post. :D

Yeah!!! Here it is. One thing I want to add is that last night I was checking around to see if I could figure something out and I went to a place that did a free virus/worm scan. This is the result that they gave me:

C:Windows\Temp\is D1D4 Friend Greetings.msi=>embedded exe suspect.Win32.VB.Gen

Run HiJack again and fix these:

O16 - DPF: BBSetup - http://bonzi.www.con...adv/bbsetup.exe

The worm detected doesn't appear to be installed on your system. The file "D1D4 Friend Greetings.msi" is the installer for this pest, so go ahead and delete it from your C:\Windows\Temp\ folder.

Good news is you have a pretty clean log. Bad news is nothing jumps out at me as something that would cause the mouse problems you describe.

Possible other causes are Operating System corruption, a defective mouse, or a motherboard problem. If you continue experiencing problems and have another mouse, I'd try swapping that first, then try a repair installation of Windows.
