My system "blue-screened" yesterday and when I re-booted none of the standard programs will launch (e.g. My Computer, IE, Explore, Connections, etc.). When I click on any of these the window clears and all of the icons then re-appear - but nothing happens. Occasionally, I will get an "Active Desktop" error, but when I look for any recent additions I don't find anything. Just now I have started getting "RC System Tray Not Responding" errors.

Other programs (Excel, Word, Spyware, etc.) all work fine.

I have tried disabling the various adware, spyware, etc. programs in case they were creating some conflict, but no difference.

I have been through the various recommended steps on the "Read this first" screen (except the Panda scan, as I cannot get on line from that PC).

When I boot up in Safe Mode all of the programs work.

I see that you have McAfee Norton and AVG downloaded. Are they all running? You only need one antiviral running. Please go to add/remove programs and remove all but one anti-viral and please uninstall error killer. That is loaded with advertising, etc.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Great news - I'm back in operation after following the steps below.

I can't open the AVG file that I saved, but the scan only found one threat: "nwuqaaaa.exe" which it deleted.

I've posted the updated HJT log below. Some of the items you asked about (R1 and 017) were related to when this was my company laptop, so no issue with those.
