Every time I try to save my MS Office documents (Excel and Word) they end up as a word pad file. I have checked the boxes when I save the documnets, but it appears with a wordpad icon on the desktop. How do I fix this?

Hi, and welcome to Geeks to Go!

If your files have .doc and .xls as extensions, then they truly are Office Word and Excel documents. It may be that the file assocation has been reset or changed.

To reset the assocation, right click on one of the Word files, choose Open With, Choose Program. Highlight Microsoft Word and be sure to check the "Always Use this Program" box. Do the same for an Excel file. Reboot. Do the icons for those files now appear to be Word and Excel instead of WordPad?
