I am working on an Emachine T2895 and the power button was working fine enabling me to turn on and off the machine and then all of a sudden nothing. I have tried a new power suplly and used the current power supply and same problem exist. The problem I am having is that when I plug in the power cord to the power supply old or new, the fans run, the power button lights green, and then an amber light on the front of the machine is steady, but when I press the power button, nothing happens.

Any ideas???

the power button itself might not be functioning

if you can locate the portion of the header where the power button plugs into the motherboard...you can short the two pins used by it with a screwdriver...or something else conductive...if doing this turns the pc on the same way the power switch used to...then the switch might be bad

Just tried that and it didn't seem to do anything. The green light is lit around the power button and that is it. I have all other items such as harddrive, etc. unplugged. When I push the power button in or hold it in, it will not shut down the cpu fan.
