I have these folders popping up in my C:\ directory named with
a bunch of numbers and letters like this C:\c7972eece5f6be06b5df1fcb9faecac2

They all only hold one *.txt file like this msxml4-KB927978-enu

What is this? Can I get rid off these files or are they serving a purpose?? :whistling:

These folders are actually not causing any trouble right now - I am just curious what they are.

Ok, done all that... no malware detected...

It seems to have something to do with MSXML 4.0... Microsoft Update refers to that program, too. Any thoughts on that??

Thanks :whistling:

Microsoft Update keeps downloading MSXML 4.0 Security patches... it seems like its doing it over and over... could that slow down my system??
A svchost.exe is using like 99% of my CPU...

meanwhile, more of these folders are popping up, but there is no malware to be found.

Here's related info from Microsoft:

Vulnerabilities in Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Could Allow Remote Code Execution (927978)

Hotfix for MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 - KB832414

This is a Microsoft Security Patch, which is installed by the Windows Update Service, which you have most likely configured to perform 'automatic' updates silently in the background. You might want to change this setting to 'notify you of updates and let you choose when to install them'.
