Hi there and thx for helping before hand.

When I hit my home page this comes up; http://asecuritypaper.com/

I think just before this hapend somekind of ActiveX download itself, I only just seen this it was a blink of the eye and I would have missed it.

And a pop up critical system warning, if I click on it just takes you to one of their sites and trys to make you buy their software to get rid of the virus, which is theirs in the first place.

Hi waynegr :whistling:

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlog...processutil.htm

Next, open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Please post back with the SmitfraudFix report and the uninstall list.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please post back here with the SmitfraudFix report and fresh HijackThis log.

Hello Wayne :whistling:

Seems that you already cleaned your computer before running SmitfraudFix with option 2. Ok run this tool too i want to see if there is anything else there.

Please download ComboScan and save it to your Desktop. Double-click on comboscan.exe and follow the prompts. Please note that some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the Internet -- please allow it. When it has finished, ComboScan will open Notepad with a log file -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) this logfile as your reply.

Additionally, a folder will open with two text files. Please attach the Supplementary.txt file with your reply. To attach a file to a new post, simply:

1. Click the [Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
2. Copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:

C:\ComboScan\Supplementary.txt

3. Click Upload.

Please post back with the scan reports that i asked from you including new HijackThis report.

Thank you.

Hello Wayne :whistling:

Your logs are looking clean now, except Viewpoint showing up in one of the logs which is optional so you decide if you want to remove it

The Yahoo! Toolbar is missing a file and not working right, or not working at all. If you use it, you will need to download it again.

Please re-open HiJackThis and choose "Do a system scan only". Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

If you decide to remove Viewpoint, follow the steps bellow
Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Viewpoint <= This program is considered as foistware and some also consider it as spyware too, so my advice to you is to uninstall it.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folder (if present):

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <=

Next follow the steps for updating java

Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:

    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked

    Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files

  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions except the latest.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Please post back to tell me how the things went, and if you have any questions!
