I'm not using Automatic Updates, but instead manually going to Windows Update once a week or so. So I've got Automatic Updates turned off.

However, now that I've done this, I always have this red shield with an x in it in my system tray (where you'd usually get the yellow shield with updates turned on when there are updates available). It also gives me a warning that they're turned off every time I start up my computer.

How can I get rid of this? Do you have to have Automatic Updates turned on to get rid of it?

Thanks for the help!

Click start, control panel, security centre, change the way security centre alerts me, untick automatic updates, confirm
