So I'll be playing Guild Wars, and things will simply freeze. Music stops, mouse doesn't respond. Have to hold button to restart. Really does sound like a heating problem...

But. Speedfan, AMD's Cool & Quiet all say that my temps are fine. As a matter of fact, they're decently low.

Any thoughts?

Edits: The drive isn't fragmented, I use UltimateDefrag, and I "consolidate for performance," and I have 2x512MB (one is Kingston ValuRAM and the other is an unidentified brand).

I highly doubt its a heating problem. You should check to see how many other programs you have running while playing Guildwars and see if its causing serious system downhaul.

The only other programs are Ventrilo, foobar2000, and my Sandisk synchronisation software.

I burned the .iso for memtest to a cd (as an image), and after an hour and a half, it didn't show anything. I took out the CD and rebooted, so here I am. Did I do something wrongly?

I don't have a floppy drive, do I have to run it off a floppy? Is there some way I can execute the test from within Windows?

Did you put the CD in a drive and then restart the PC

It should start to load then switch to memtest

Came up with a few options for me, got much further than it did on this machine. I'll give it another try before I jump to conclusions though.

Edit: Didn't get anywhere with it. Can I run it off a flash drive?

See if you can run this

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then from system tools, run disc defragmenter.

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD

Windows File Protection will show a blue onscreen progress bar, when the bar goes, reboot

If you do not have an XP CD you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD

If you do not have an XP CD and are unable to borrow one, run the scan, click skip if it asks for the CD, if it keeps asking, click cancel.

If it kept asking for the XP CD then system files are missing

Click start then run, type chkdsk /f /r then press enter, type Y to confirm for next boot, press enter then reboot.

Windows will appear to load normally then either the monitor will show progress or the screen will go blank, do not disturb this.

This will take an hour or so before it gets to the desktop.

Download and install Tune Up 2007 Trial

Run Tune Up Disc Clean Up

Run Tune Up Registry Clean Up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, which will take a few minutes and need a reboot. You should disable the antivirus programme to run this and check it is running after the reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

It's doing the scan to check if all my files are the originals (I know for a fact that I disabled the Windows Defrag engine, other than that everything should be dandy).

As far as using TuneUp is concerned, I use NTREGOPT/ERUNT, check for Registry errors with CCleaner, and defrag on a regular basis with UltimateDefrag, so I'm going to skip that step.
