I just put my computer back together anfter taking it apart to travel with it. Nothing happened to it during the trip, but when I re-assembled the computer, I could not get any sound from the speakers. I've checked the volume in sounds and audio, and any place else I could think of, but I don't know what is wrong. I get perfect sound from my usb connected headphones. Any suggestions?

you would need to give more info on your computer/soundcard.

What do you mean took apart? Assemble?

Are you certain you put it in the right jack...some sound jacks differ depending on the speaker set up (two speaker, four speaker, two speaker with sub woofer....)

I have a byo computer,Intel family 15 model 2 2.0 processor, 512 ram, 40 gig hd, asus bios, video card - nvidia Ge 800x600 64 colors
I didn't really take it apart - just broke it down into components - cpu, monitor, etc. My speakers are 2 platinum series jbl's, that came with my Compaq FS740 17" monitor.

When I used the computer in CA, I had the monitor speakers plus surround sound 5.1. Now I just have the monitor speakers. I changed the configuration to monitor speakers, but it didn't help. I've tried the plugs several different ways, but no sound.

I have one wire from one speaker plugged into the back of the other, and the green tipped plug that comes out of the back of the one plugged into the green plug in back of the cpu. Should there be more wires?

Should I go through the hack process? I have already run ad-aware as instructed at your site, and cwshredder and SpySubtract (now downloaded with cwshredder).

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Did the pc had a seperate sound card or was it on-board?
If it had a seperate one.. did you plug it back in it's original PCI slot?
Re-installing the audio drivers should normally also take care of that problem.

I read about a virus- its making your speakers turn off. Try a virus scan, spyware, or something like that.
