I'm using Windows XP on a ASUS A7N266-VM motherboard. I removed my CD-Writer(LITE-ON LTR-52327S) yesterday and today when i plugged it again it doesn't show up in "My Computer". It neither shows up in "Device Manager". Although it shows in "Secondary Slave" while booting.

Now i thought to use a USB drive instead till i get my CD-Writer repaired but even the USB DRIVE doesn't show up in "My Computer". Although it shows in "Device MAnager".

In the "Device Manager" i found "SM BUS COMTOLLER" in "OTHER DEVICES with a "YELLOW QUESTION MARK" and "AN EXCLAMATION MARK". So i downloaded the motherboard drivers from Asus Website(as i cudn't use my cd/rom) and when i installed the drivers, the "Other DEVIES" disappeared.

Regards,
Aashish.

try this...
The popular CDGONE patch. CD drives may vanish in Windows Explorer, Device Manager, etc. if a third-party CD-burning package has been uninstalled and Registry references for some code modules aren't removed successfully. This patch and a reboot usually will restore the missing drives. Any third party package still required will then have to be re-installed.

Go to the link http://aumha.org/regfiles.htm ......

look for .....Restore Missing CD Drive .....a little over half way down........
