Suspected Virus

I have run a number of the spyware and virus scanners as suggested but I am still having issues with my computer. It is extremely slow to start (over ¼ hour) and it is running very slowly. It was fine yesterday. I have found and removed 1 virus but I suspect there is still something wrong. Would someone be able to check the Panda scan and hijack log below

Hi Devon1 and welcome to G2G.

I'll take a look at your log and get back to you. In the meantime:

You are currently using HijackThis from a temporary directory, this can cause problems.
HijackThis creates backups, these are needed in case of any recovery issues.
Please create a directory on your C:\ drive called C:\HJT, download and unzip HijackThis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on.

STEPS For Creating Folder
1. Please go to My Computer, open your C:\ drive, Select: New >> Folder and name the folder HJT.

2. Download HijackThis to the new folder:

3. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

4. Close ALL windows except HJT

5. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

6. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')
Please make sure you post the entire log including the top portion:

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Hi Devon1.

I don't see anything untoward in your log.

Your startup problem may be related to unnecessary programs loading at startup. There are some things we can try to improve this if you are willing to do so.

Quite happy to, only thing I really wanted loaded at start up is AVG and e-mail

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

You have 3 anti-spyware programs running. Whilst it is good to protect yourself, this is overkill. The resources being used by these 3 programs is slowing your system down.

You need to decide which to keep. If you paid for Trojan Hunter you may as well keep that one.

Uninstall the other through Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and use stand-alone programs such as Adware SE and Spybot to scan periodically.

You may also be able to help speed things up if you download and install CCleaner
  • Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
  • Then select the items you wish to clean up.

    In the Windows Tab:
    - Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
    - Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
    - Clean all entries in the "System" section.
    - Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
    - Clean any others that you choose.

    In the Applications Tab:
    - Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
    - Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
    - Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
    - Clean any others that you choose.
  • Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
  • A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
  • Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
After you've done that, run disk defragmenter in System Tools.
