dvd driver doesn't detect dvd movies

I have a compaq laptop and it does not detect any dvds I try to play, these are not bootlegs. Can someone please help? I am confused.

Do you have any DVD player software installed? If not you will need to download one. Someone may have a suggestion for decent DVD software.
