Systems restore

Some 9 months ago, my "system restore" ceased to function. I had used it from time to time in the past. I do not know what I could have done but each time NOW(since a 9 month period) I want to restore to a past date, it will give a date and I will agree and when finished (the system shuts down and then restarts as it is supposed to do when using a system restore) but when you sign in again, the message on the screen is always that a past restore date could not be established.
