I am at my wit's end. I am fairly familiar with computers. However, I still use both limewire and morpheus p2p search engines. That may or may not have anything to do with this. Just recently things started going crazy. I do not know if they are related
1. My DVD/CD drive disappeared. (Fortunately, I have managed to recover it since)
2. My Windows Search Assistant/Companion has disappeared. When I click on Start, then Search, a window opens that has nothing in it. The left pane is there but there is no search feature. All that exists is the standard buttons at the top. I have tried several things including trying to reinstall the search assistant.
3. My virus scanner (Trend Micro) disappeared. I called trend micro up and reinstalled it. In the mean time, I went to trendsecure.com and ran their free housecall scan. The housecall came up with 4 trojans that it couldn't delete. Once I installed the full antivirus suite, I ran a scan that came up with 505 trojans, 503 of which were TROJ_DROPPER.BEW. It appears that I cannot quarintine or even delete these files. I read the info on this virus and it says it is highly destructive.
