Mouse Woes

I have a friend who bought a Dell Dimension Desktop Computer and he is having a problem with his mouse. For some reason when he scrolls too/off the right side of the screen his mouse pointer disappears and takes a couple seconds to reappear when he moves it back away from that side. It is only affected when its near the right side and he doesnt remember when it started doing it but its starting to pose a noticeable problem for him, any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
