I know this is going to sound really noobish, and the answer is staring me in the face, but is there anyway to stop my External HD booting AutoPlay options when I switch it on? I know there's usually a tick box to say "Do this every time..." but it's not there? Any help?

My Computer>Rt. click drive name>Properties>Autoplay tab. For each of the types of files in the top drop-down menu box select "Take no action.">Apply>OK.
