where is the best place to find a motherboard for a compaq presario 2700?

My guess is your going to believe what Best Buy said, so the only place that might have something would be ebay, a used one, because they don't sell Laptop Motherboards in any stores I know of.

i really dont have an opinion on what best buy said. i really dont know what is wrong with the computer. i was wondering if someone had another idea as what could be wrong with the computer. i am interested in finding out what happened to it.

What problem is the computer having? If it's not turning on at all you might check the power supply before looking at the motherboard.

Its a laptop its built in. Does it turn on at all? when was the last time you used it and what happend when it stopped working?

it will run in bios but nothing else. i started having problems with it crashing while using the power supply. so then i would just use it on the batteries. then shut it down and charge the batteries and then start it back up again. then it started crashing on the batteries. now i cannot get it to boot up at all.

Do you by any chance see a blue screen of death and then nothing happens?

no not a blue screen but it will not boot up eather. i tried to open bios and it will open however i dont see a harddrive test to run. i wish it did.

Do you have a windows XP or older installation CD?

no i wish that i did however i dont. the one for the computer ended up getting lost.

If you see the BIOS, the motherboard isn't to blame, either its the memory or the hard drive. To find out, turn the computer off. Remove one slot of ram, reboot. If the same thing happends then put the stick you took out and put it in and take the other stick out. If your still only getting BIOS on boot it's likely the hard drive to blame.

Always get a second opinion, people make mistakes, the people at best buy are known more so then others.

P.S. If the motherboard fails in a laptop, its not worth it to have someone fix it. Dell wanted 500$ the other for my uncles notebook. Also the only real possible way to get a replacement motherboard for notebooks these days are by a)getting a different laptop or b) paying the company that you bought it from to replace it.

thanks for th information. i will have to look at my maitenance and service guide and see how to remove one stick of ram as you said. this is a little over my head but i will see what i can do. maybe this will give me a way to repair the computer. thanks again. best buy said that a mother board would be about $800. too much for me.
