Hello

Make sure your downloads are not in the C:\windows folder

Not a problem

Do you have any burning software like Nero 6

I've got Nero software something called 'Recordnow!' which is I think Nero 7
Is the normal Win XP burning software not enough?
This added later what I have is not 'Nero Burning ROM' which looks like its required to use 'Slipstream'

As to whats wrong
Either it is a corrupt windows file or there is a program that we have not found that is stopping it.

What sort of program could it be and is it for sure not on the Dell

Have a look at this it is a step by step for slipstreaming. Let me know what you think

I'll read it through fully when I have time looks ok though

Thanks for the help.

Can you start code stuff starter again and give me a scree shot of the services tab.
We can always download service pack 2 and burn to a cd then run it (if I remember right) I will test it 1st.
I am sure that it can just be run of a cd.
Some of the files for your wirless setup are still running.

3 pics as requested - I'm out of space so will have to delete some early pics from this thread

OK look forward to your instructions

Some of the files for your wirless setup are still running.

Are they - I did uninstall it as instructed - but I find my ISP (BT) stuff can be a bit 'difficult' (same as Norton)

Thanks again

Hi Chris
You have som nortons running. Please go in to the services via code stuff and click on Symantec core Lc and click on stop Click on Security Centre (wscsvc) and click on stop. What is listed above this please it is the 1st thing on the list.
Can you see each other now ? if not please reboot and check if the 2 services are still stopped.

Hello

You have som nortons running. Please go in to the services via code stuff and click on Symantec core Lc and click on stop Click on Security Centre (wscsvc) and click on stop.

I thought all that had been stopped when G2G sorted my malware problem last year Symantec core LC showed as stopped already I stopped Security centre (wscsvc)

What is listed above this please it is the 1st thing on the list.

The 3 pics I sent cover the whole list from Code starter - Services

Can you see each other now ?

No they cant

if not please reboot and check if the 2 services are still stopped.

I rebooted and Securty centre (wscsvc) shows as 'running' again - they cant see each other
I've now 'disabled' it and 'stopped' it - after restart it now shows as stopped (disabled) - they cant see each other
Thanks

Hi Chris
Can you please start the computer and start tapping F8 This should give you a menu. Choose Safe mode with network.
As this boots to safe mode you will get a screen with lots of text this is normal
Can they see each other now. If yes please start code stuff & we will see what is different.
Cheers

We look for a free burning software that can burn an iso
Like this
We make a slipstream SP2 (do you have a burner) we do a system repair.
Do you want to see if you can make the slipstream ? the instructions I gave you in the link are easy to follow.
If you get stuck or are unsure let me know.
If you like the easy way out is to download the sp2 file I pointed you to then burn it to a cd. then you just have to click on the file to unpack it and launch the SP2 setup - Easier then slipstreaming
Cheers

Hello
I'm going for the 'easy' option so I've downloaded the SP2 file from the link in the slipstream site and will burn it onto a CD
I assume that this SP2 file applies to both XP Home and XP Pro

I await your next set of instructions

Thank you

Hi Chris
Please read this Repair XP
If you feel ok with it then give it a try.If you have any questions please ask me before you start. Please burn off any must keep data (to be sure).
Make sure you have your CD key before starting, If not there is a link on the page showing how to find the key.
SP2 is for home and pro.
After you run the repair please run the SP2 upgrade. Please DO NOT load any other software including ZA anti virus etc. We do not need them yet as we are not going on the www just yet. 1st step is to see if the network is working after the repair. Please unplug from the BT hub when you do this.
Cheers
