restoring windows xp.

Well i used partion magic to take away my two 40 gig partitions and make them once becuase it was being a pain. Well i did this and it messed up and the folder it was suposed to put everything on the D partion is in accessable and suposavly empty. With this acer laptop i was not givin a restore cd. If i use a dell windows xp restore cd on this media center edition what will happen? Is there any other way i can make this work?
