hey there, for some reason my dvd burner is not reading blank dvds anymore. It reads and burns to cds and reads pre-recorded dvds fine but when I put in a blank dvd it doesn't do anything. Worked fine a few weeks ago. I've had some pals install some freeware dvd stuff on in the interim but I've deleted it and still won't work. I have a hl-dt-st dvdrrw gca-4164b. It's properties say it's working fine. Can anyone help me as to what the problem is? many thanks.

You may actually need *software* to be able to read the blank disk itself. Windows may not be detecting the blank disk but I bet if you have a cd burning tool you'll be able to read that blank disk.

sorry, I should have added more info. The computer doesn't find the blank dvd no matter what software I use. I've mainly been using Nero and it keeps telling me to insert a blank dvd (even though one is already in). I've tried 3 different brands of dvd to make sure it wasn't a dubious dvd.
