Whew!!! Glad that fixed the problem.

Here are the instructions for copying everything from your old Windows User Account to your New Account.
  • Reboot the computer and log in with an administrative user account that is neither the new or the old. You can press Ctrl+Alt+Del at the Welcome Screen to open the classic log-in shell. Type in Administrator as the user. This is the default Administrator user account that is created when Windows is installed. The password may be blank.
  • Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • Click the Settings button in the User Profiles section.
  • Select the user account that was corrupted.
  • Click the Copy To button.
  • Click the Browse button and then browse to Documents and Settings, and select the new account.
If you do this part wrong and copy the profile from the new account to the old account, you will delete everything out of the My Documents folder for the old account.

Once you reboot, log in with the new User Account confirm that your new Windows User Account has everything in My Documents, etc., you can delete the older User Profile (follow the above directions to get to Profiles, highlight the old account, and choose Delete). Then double check User Accounts (in Control Panel) and be sure the older user is gone. If it's not, delete it.

For your old Outlook PST file, look at this previous G2G Thread that explains how to import a PST file.

Please let us know how it goes.

I know you were just trying to help me, but I'm in tears.

I did the copy over and rebooted and saw all my folders ... everything..

Now I went in and deleted the file and went to my new user account.. and the folders are there .. but all the files are not..

Now I try to sign on to Outlook and it tells me that there is no PST file.. so I did an entire search on the PST's (by using *.pst) and there's nothing... not even my archived files...

I don't know what to say... all my html favorites are gone.. my kids are going to shoot me.. they are teens and they have links to "God knows what"...

is there any way to find my user profile now that it's gone??? I even looked at the size of the user file.. and the first one was 1.??? GB and the new one said 2.?? GB... why didn't it work???

oh gawd... <sigh>

Thanks again, i'm just sick at the moment.

Let's stay calm.

Browse to C:\Documents and Settings. Do you see your new folder and your old folder? Inside the old User folder, do you see My Documents? Is there anything in it? What about My Documents under the new User folder?

Your old PST file should be located at c:\documents and settings\old user name\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook. If you don't see Local Settings, open My Computer, click Tools, Folder Options, View tab, check "Show hidden files and folders". Now browse again to C:\Documents and Settings. Do you see it?

If all these folders are empty, did you perhaps copy the profiles backwards - new profile onto the old profile?

Do you have a backup of your data?

Hi Linda, again :whistling:

After having to walk away, I thought about system restore. So i just restored it and now I have "Two" Old user folders under Documents and Settings and the new one.

What I'm going to do is just walk away for today so I don't go completely mad!!!! :help:

I will start from scratch and do all the steps and just not delete my old user profile. After a few days, I'll come back and tell you where I stand on the Outlook situation.

Thanks for helping me. If I didn't have that system restore, I would have lost all my kid's pictures and their itunes... so, now is the time to back up all this stuff.. I never want to feel like that again :help:

Thanks for everything.. and appreciate the welcome!

TTYL,
Megan

Sounds like a good plan. I'm revising my instructions to include a provision for moving a copy of the old user folder out to the desktop as a backup precaution.

I'm really glad you got your stuff back.

Hey Linda

I'm back!

Well, everything did not come back. My kids ipods lost info, etc., etc.,...

I did not get back my Favorites. I lost all my pictures :whistling:....

So if you can help me, I will be on later today and have a few days to focus on this...

Thanks,
Megan

Hi, Megan. I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble.

Please list exactly what you've done and what the results were. I'm especially interested in hearing the results from the System Restore you did, i.e. with two user folders, did you have My Favorites, My Documents, etc.
