Hi,

I get this generic host win 32 error messages when I turn ON my computer. Ever since I've been receiving this messages my computer seems to be slower.

Reading some of the sugestions given in relation to this problem, I scanned my computer using Hijak This. Could someone look at the log file and tell me what's wrong with it and what do I have to do.

Here is my file.

I get this error message, too, but only since installing Windows Service Pack 2, and only since upgrading to a better virus protection service. The IT people at work tell me that my virus protection service sees this part of the Service Pack 2 as spyware or as a browser hijacker. They have since REMOVED the Windows Service Pack 2 from our Windows 2000 Professional series systems at work, and they found it to be very difficult. I have heard many people say that if they knew before hand how the Service Pack 2 attaches itself to so many applications, they would never have installed it. I hope this helps.

Thank you wild4packers.

I'm affraid that something else is also wrong. I scanned my computer with an unregistered version of XoftSpy 4.10 and it came up with two items one being HIGH THREAT and the other one just THREAT.

ProDyne WEBINSTALL.WebInstallCtrl.1 (High threat)

Trojan.Admincash SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608500} (threat)

Is there a way of removing these without having to purchase XoftSpy to delete them???
I have attached the xoftSpy log file. It might help.

:tazz: ;)

Please help.

Although I'm no expert, I found that using the new Microsoft Beta Anti-Spyware (it's free) program from Microsoft.com has effectively helped to eliminate many issues I had. I had to "tweak" it a little to get it right for my use, but it's free and as far as I can tell, effective. The "network" I use for my cable/DSL service has also provided a free anti-virus program which automatically blocks the Win32 from booting.

Since this is not really a virus, though, I wouldn't think you'd be "unprotected" from it as it's part of the service pack. I continue to send error reports to Microsoft, however, every time I get the pop-up window so perhaps eventually they will know that this is an invasive part of their program.

Many thanks.

I've downloaded the Microsoft Beta Anti-Spyware and it did not pick up anything. Not even the two things (mentioned in my previous post), picked up by XoftSpy. :tazz:

Can someone please help.
;)

Thank you.
