Cannot get XP Service Pack 1 to install

I dl the file from microsoft.com. When I start the install it barely gets into it and then gives me an install error, stating there is no reply from server. I am attempting to fix my parents computer that is infested with malware and cant do anything until i get this to install.

If possible try right click and save target as to download the full file before installing it. One question is why not go for SP2?
