I just got cable service bout a month ago, worked fine at first, but then something started messing with the modem during the day. The modem will run from 6 am to about 12 noon, then shut down to only one blinking light till about 6 pm, then will stay on till the next morning at 6 am. Some days are worse then this. I usually Diagnose the connections through the tools section, this sometimes helps. Sometimes if I lockdown the firewall it'll re-new the connection. Sometimes a spyware scan will re-new connection, it's really wierd and got me baffled. I had a registry Cleaner trial version it deleted 10 items for free, but wanted payment to delete the rest, could this of been a virus instead of a legite program? And if so how do I get rid of it?

almost deffinitely...any reputable software with a "free trial" will tell you the terms of what it will "clean" or "fix" during the trial...not fix 5 things then pop a message up saying you have to pay to get the rest...it's possible that it was legit...but not easy to be sure without the name

so the modem itself is actually showing limited connectivity during these times? have you called your ISP for this issue?

i'd suggest (just to be sure about that registry cleaner) that you go to our malware forum to get checked out just in case you've got some funk in there

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty (and you may not be) then post a hijackthis log in THE MALWARE FORUM forum.
(Posting HiJack This logs in any other forum other than the malware forum is forbidden. If you post an HJT log in any other forum, it will be removed and it will take you longer to get help, so please make sure you only post HJT logs in the malware forum)

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread..

I moved this to the malware forum. Thanx for re-directing me to the proper place.
