microsoft office running slow

Hello, all of my microsoft office programs (word, powerpoint,etc.) are running slow now. It tkaes about twenty seconds just to open up the menu to change a tab or format. Just wodering what may have caused this and if there is any thing I can do to fix this. My internet is also a little slow to initate goign to a new page. Any help is appreciated!
