Greetings all. Been browsing awhile, finally got a reason to directly ask for some help.

I just inheirited a 'new' machine with XP Pro on it as well as a couple of problems. I've resolved most of the issues i have had with it; altering user accounts, changing policies, cleaning the registry, etc. I've got it down to pretty much one big one - it seems to be infected with netgh.exe. Now i don't have much experience with this one and i was curious as to if it requires a MalWare removal tool or if you can just alter its' appearance in the registry (and related programs) manually. It has taken to causing my 'wallpaper' in my Admin logon to flash colors (cream and white mostly) and appears as a HTML document when right clicked on. I've been told elsewhere netgh can cause this, and i'm inclined to believe it since i and another IT bud can find no other problems with it. Now, a bigger problem has kinda arisen. I believe since the deletion of an old ISP and its' related connections, it has now taken to putting itself into standby whenever it feels like it. THAT is very unhandy. Note that it only does that in standard mode, however. I've booted up in Safe Mode and have been perusing the system and was hopefully looking to alter what i can there.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty (and you may not be) then post a hijackthis log in THE MALWARE FORUM forum.
(Posting HiJack This logs in any other forum other than the malware forum is forbidden. If you post an HJT log in any other forum, it will be removed and it will take you longer to get help, so please make sure you only post HJT logs in the malware forum)

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread..
