I am running XP and my computer will not shutdown. What is the possible cause of this and how can i fix it. When I ask the computer to shut down it goes to the shutdown screen and hangs there. I have to hold the power button in to shut this computer down. Anyone help please!!

Also, a known issue with XP shutdown in the original version was rectified with a fix as part of SP1 (also fixed in SP2 of course).

Thanks for the reply. This machine does have SP2 on it. This problem happens all the time. The machine never shuts down by it self.
