Anyone know if dell still uses proprietary power supplies? I have a dell dimension 8400 that won't boot but I'm not sure if it is the power supply or motherboard and I don't want to plug in a power supply if it's not standard....

The majority of Dell Pentium 3 systems use non-standard power supplies, though I understand that this has been scrapped in favour of standard power supplies in the P4 series. As the 8400 is part of this range, any PSU from any outlet should be okay.

A couple of good websites on this.

If you want to know the difference in wiring compare these two.

thanks that just makes less sure if it's standard or not.... the one I have is a 24pin atx style connector and the colors do not match the standard supply at least not completely.... so I will play it safe and assume it's proprietary....
