Help Running Diablo 2 :LOD

hey ive tried to install diablo 2 on a computer evrything installed fine but when i try to run it a box pops up called D2INIT and says failed to create game client window
ive asked around and ive been told that i need direct3d installed
when i run dxdiag it says direct3d is unavailable
so i download it from the microsoft site but dont no whedre to unzip
any help would b appreciated
