Bought this pc about a year ago, haven't tried to burn any dvd's, got curious, decided to try it. IT won't recognize blank dvd-r's, regardless of the brand, and isn't recognizing a dvd movie either. Any suggestions? I'm so frustrated with it, and based on what I've read on the net, that I'm ready to say screw it and buy a third party one and replace it!!

What type of DVD-RW is it? Try upgrading the firmware to start off with, that usually resolves most media and speed issues.

ARe you sure it is suppose to support dvd-r? Maybe it only supports dvd+r/+rw? It also could be that it is dirty and needs to be cleaned
