please help with wireless connection

A few days ago I had to do a clean restore of windows xp. My wireless network was working, i have a Dell 1500 draft 802.11n mini card. Now it is not working. I do not have a wireless router, i connect thru neighbors and hot spots. It tells me wireless meida is not connected:

you say you started from scrath on the pc....have you installed the drivers for the wireless adapter?

Hi, thanks, Dell helped me reinstall everything. I think they did that, not sure though. In device manager it shows Network Adapters 1394 Network Adapter, Broadcom 440x10/100 Integrated Controller, Dell Wireless 1500 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card. I don' know what else to check.

in that case they did install the drivers...when you're not on wireless do you connect with a wire to your router? (looks like you do)

also do you see an icon in the system tray (by the clock) for your wireless card? might look like some vertical bars? (like the cingular comercials)

when I am not on wireless I connect to a wired router that is connected to my desktop. Yes the icon is there next to it is another icon for my wireless and it states disconnected also.

right click on the wireless icon that you usually use...do you see an option to "enable radio" or something to the effect of "turn wireless on"

yes, it says disable radio

hmm...which suggests that the radio is on prgramatically...does your Laptop have a hardware switch to turn the radio on?

I can disable it my right clicking. i am sorry I don't know about a switch. Do you think it would help if I uninstall driver and reinstall driver for wireless card?
