It has acted VERY bogged down, I cant surf without waiting MINUTES before anything will load, I work from home and my laptop is bascially my livelyhood, I dont know, maybe its just tired.
Anyways, I got to thinking it just had too much stuff stored on it, so I went and purchased an external hard drive and moved everything onto that, all pics, documents, program exe's, EVERYTHING. I defragged like crazy, scanned it over and over, and did a registry clean. They find nothing. Its not my internet connection, cuz my desktop computer works fine and very speedy.
I have XP operating system, My laptop is a toshiba, Intell celeron M 1.3 GHz, 240 mb of ram and a 40 gig harddrive. (it was a pretty good laptop in its day, I would love for you to tell me to get a new one) I am using Nod32 (because I was told that it was one of the lightest antiviruses, if I am wrong then let me know :-) and I have sygate firewall.
I also use, spybot and adaware. According to everything,,,its clean.
Everytime I restart it, it has a real struggle, its a good 10 minute process, in the task manager there is a svchost.exe (I know there are many) system process that is usually running SUPER high, I have been deleting it, but it keeps showing up every few minutes. Also there is a wault.exe, that is running really hight also that i keep deleting. After the computer is up for a while, the appearance of XP goes away and now looks like a windows 98 style. No idea what that is all about.
The cpu flickers back and forth from 0 to 100% every other second which hardly allows me to do anything.
Does it need more memory? Is it possible to add more memory to a laptop?? I am pretty knowledgeable with replacing hardware and getting inside of my desktop towers, but laptops I just know nothing about.
Can anyone help me with this one, I am about at the end of my patience. Here is a hijackthis log, I dont know if it will tell you anything, but I sure hope so.
