my computer has windows ME, a Netgear WG111v2 wireless usb adapter, and a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. i finally got the netgear adapter fully loaded on here, so i can open the program and sign on. it shows me all of the available wireless networks, and it lets me log in with my password. thats where it ends. there is no activity on the statisics page meaning no internet for me. can anyone help me do whatever step i skipped to fix this?

other possibly useful info: the problem is with the second computer in the house, and the other computer is working fine on xp with all the wireless stuff built in. we have a comcast cable connection.

thanks!

Try renewing the ip adress or reset the computer when you establish a connection

Well good job on trying that out!

Sorry I am not responding quicker, I am feeling ill so lets see what we can do.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.

Is there any Yellow ! or any kind of error message next to that driver?

If not, we are going to disable the realtek driver.

Right click it. It should be under Network Adapters.

Please click Disable.

The driver is now disabled. Reboot the PC.

i found somewhere it said the realtek thing IS the driver for my netgear adapter. is that right?

under the network adapters tab it was listing the netgear adapter along with an "intel 8255x-based PCI ethernet adapter (10/100)"

so i tried disabling the netgear one (like a goofball). when i rebooted it had the yellow exclamation point. then i rebooted again because my netgear wizard wouldn't open at all, and it had re-enabled itself!

then i tried to disable the other one (the intel). i rebooted, and that's where i am now.

thank you so much for your help! i hope you feel better soon. do you know what it is that's wrong? i used to be a medical nutritionist, maybe i could trade some of my info for yours :whistling:

oh... i do have an ip address now, but it still will not let me renew it. it says "dhcp server unavailable" when i try. i dont know if that matters

and... there are yellow exclamation points on my device manager page next to 02Micro 0Z6933 CardBus Controller (and that same thing is listed twice under PCMCIA Socket), in case that matters, either.

One thing you might try is to enter in the cmd window

ipconfig /flushdns

Hopefully we are getting a regular ip instead of a Private IP.

Try turning off both modem and router for one minute and turn them back on.
