Dear All

I have a 6 month old XP-based e-machines PC with an odd problem. I have always had some weird internet connection problems with this machine, i.e. that it would sort of 'time-out' and I would have to re-boot in order to browse the internet. Now it's gone a stage further and I cannot browse through either Firefox or IE. The weird thing is that I can use skype, get updates, connect to other PCs through Mionet etc. I have re-installed both browsers.

The machine is connected to a router and then an ADSL modem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have attached an ipconfig snapshot in case that helps.

Kind regards

RC

Thanks for the feedback.

I tried the winsock fix as you suggested but it didn't work. I am still connected to the internet (can still call through skype) but cannot access internet through browser..

The router is a linksys WRT54T V4 and the modem is a speedstream from SBC.

Thanks

In that case you should be set up for a LAN, the router is part of a local area network. Choose PPPoE as your protocol in the router setup page and put your login information in and save the settings. You can access the page here http://192.168.1.1 After you've established the LAN right click on it and choose properties. Make sure you have the TCP/IP protocol, you probably do, right click on TCP/IP and choose Properties for it. You should select the settings in this image for your TCP/IP
