Steam is Valve's online service. It is now a requirement to install and play all of their games. Sign up for a free Steam account, and then you should be able to download and install CS:S, all you need is a CD key.

You don't need the CD's. It's better just to download it from them, because it needs to patch anyway.

get a steam account and install steam. then install counter strike source from cd or download from steam. Somewhere along the process you will need to enter your cd key. after that it will associate the game with your steam ID. once the install is complete steam should go through the update/patch process.

If you have problems please let us know.

Thanks,
Starjax

There are so many patches downloading it from steam is the easiest and least prone to error, in vista remember to set steam to run as administrator otherwise it wont get access to write to the hard drive(which might be your problem).
