Hi and thanks. I hadn't rebooted computer for several weeks and when I did found that my desktop and browser had been taken over. Macaffee found downloader-vv trojan and a bunch of others but couldn't clean, delete, or quarantine downloader-vv. I've gone through all fundamental steps (adaware, spybot and all others in your initial sequence of treatment. Wormbagz was found and deleted. Still can't get rid of fundamental problem. Here is log.

Hi mlane,

Welcome to Geeks to Go. My name is Trevuren and I will he helping you with your log.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1) First, I need you to move HijackThis to its own folder so that nothing gets deleted by mistake. The easiest way for you now would be as follows:

. Right Click on your Desktop
. Scroll down the menu to "New"
. Left click on "Folder"
. Name Folder "HJT"
. Drag current HijackThis icon from your desktop into the HJT Folder
. Run HJT from there.

2) Now I want you to UNINSTALL the following programs through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:

Media Access

3) Now, using Windows Explorer, I need you to DELETE the following folder(s) and all their content:

C:\Program Files\Media Access

4) Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed excepr for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi Trevuren: Thanks for your help. I first removed Media Access through ADD/REMOVE on control panel. Then checked and didn't find it using Windows Explorer.

Hi mlanie2250,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. As previouls described, I want you to now UNINSTALL the following items through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel: (if you can find them)

Win Tools
Toolbar

2. If you found them, and were able to uninstall them, using Windows Explorer DELETE the following folders and all their content:

C:\Program Files\WinTools
C:\Program Files\Toolbar

3. REBOOT your computer

4. Run HijackThis and with all windows closed excepr for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi Trevuren: Thanks for this. I found win tools easy installer and removed through the add/remove on control panel. didn't find Toolbar.

I found Tool Bar through explorer (didn't find Win Tools). Attempted to delete Tool Bar but couldn't delete following items because they were "being used by another program" (nothing was open) These still remain: toolbar.dll, common.dll, yywsv.wsg, yywr.wzg, tbpssvc, tbps, radio, nzglihr.wzg

Here is log. Thanks again for your help.

Hi mleane2250,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
. Click the Config button located in the lower right hand corner of the HijackThis window.
. When the new screen opens, find and click the Miscellaneous Tools button.
. Then choose the Open Process Manager button.
. From the list of processes, hilight the following items by clicking them, ONE AT A TIME, then DELETE them by clicking the KILL button:

C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\PIB.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe

Once all items have been KILLED, click the Back button which will return you to the HijackThis main window. Now place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: &Search Toolbar - {339BB23F-A864-48C0-A59F-29EA915965EC} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Service Host] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{62F9A5E7-131F-472A-8B9C-C19C30640C22}\SVCHOST.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gah95on6] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gah95on6.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TBPS] C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup.../bridge-c18.cab
O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akama...meInstaller.exe
O18 - Protocol: tpro - {FF76A5DA-6158-4439-99FF-EDC1B3FE100C} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll
O21 - SSODL: NTDBGTOOL - {6B106D0A-0A30-4A05-848B-2AA5654C7ECD} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\iassnels.dll
O23 - Service: Trace network connections (ACCRA) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mocih.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Loading Outpost Connections (KDE) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmdtel.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: WebSeach Toolbar support NT service (TBPSSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them (if they are present):

FILES

C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{62F9A5E7-131F-472A-8B9C-C19C30640C22}\SVCHOST.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\gah95on6.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\iassnels.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mocih.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmdtel.exe

FOLDERS (with all their content)

C:\PROGRAM FILES\Toolbar

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi Trevuren: I must be missing something--desktop is still taken over by Security iGuard and browser goes to daosearch instead of home page. I didn't see any of the files you mentioned in Explorer but was able to delete the Toolbar folder.

Thanks for your help. Here's the log.

Hi mlane2250,

1) It is not a surprise that you can't find some of the files. If you read the procedures again, you will see the ""if present" wording. It is because some of these files get deleted when we delete the entries.

2) I need to make sure that you are not running 2 AV programs at the same time.

If you are, you have to uninstall 1 because they often conflict with each other.

3) Are you running MS anti-spyware? If yes, please disable it.

4) We still have a lot of hard work to do in the 023 area of your log but I need these answers before we can continue.

Trevuren

Hi Trevuren:

I couldn't find any indication that Microsoft anti-spyware is installed or running. Checked program files, desktop etc.

Thanks,
Marc

Hi marc,

How about the antivirus programs situation? Did you uninstall 1?

Hi Trevuren:

I didn't uninstall one because the only one I'm running (knowingly) is Macaffee. I looked for others in Control Panel ADD/REMOVE and in Windows Explorer but didn't find any.

Should I disable or remove Macaffee?

Hi marc,

Time for the nitty-gritty.

We are now at the point where we have some very touchy work to do. Take your time and be as precise as possible. I will try and provide you with the clearest directions possible.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1) Download "service Filter" from : HERE to your Desktop so you can find it easily later. Do not use it now.

2) Open HijackThis, run a SCAN, Scroll down the list of entries until you reach the 023 entries. Here I need you to find the following entries and write down the content of the entries:

O23 - Service: Loading Outpost Connections (KDE) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmdtel.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: WebSeach Toolbar support NT service (TBPSSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe (file missing)

Close HijackThis.
---------------------------------
3. Now open Service Filter by clicking on its icon.
. Then click OK and OK again when prompted.
. A Wordpad text will appear on your desktop. Scroll down the list of services until you find the services containing the names you wrote down during the preceding procedure.
. For each 023 involved, carefully write down the name that appears beside the label "Service Name". These names will be required in the next step.
. Close the program when finished.
----------------------------
4. Now we need to work from the Command Prompt

Go Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Command Prompt

. A black box will appear with a flashing cursor. At the cursor, type cd.. then cd.. again and repeat the procedure until the writing preceeding the cursor says C:\>

. Now carefully type the following: sc delete servicename, where servicename is replaced by the one of the real service names that you have written down. Press ENTER. Probably KDE

. Repeat the same procedure using the second service name this time. Press ENTER. Probably TBPSSvc

.Close the Command Prompt box.
------------------------------------------
Now to stuff we are more familiar with:

1) First I want you to stop the service on the following entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TBPS] C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe

Go to START>>RUN and type services.msc > o.k
.A window will appear titled "Services".
.Scroll down the list of services on the right and find the one that corresponds to
\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
. Highlight the service and choose STOP from the 2 choices that appear under the heading Service Local.
. Exit this window and proceed the next step.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://daosearch.com...5&said=nicket_a
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TBPS] C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {662939AD-DF8C-4A64-A3CC-1CE7A8B359E3} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {662939AD-DF8C-4A64-A3CC-1CE7A8B359E3} - (no file) (HKCU)
O23 - Service: Loading Outpost Connections (KDE) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmdtel.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: WebSeach Toolbar support NT service (TBPSSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe (file missing)

FILES

C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmdtel.exe

FOLDERS (with all their content)

C:\PROGRAM Files\Toolbar

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Hi Trevuren:

Thanks for this. Ran a scan and found KDE but TBPSSvc didn't show up. Same with Service Filter. From command prompt I deleted KDE.

Attempted to find services from RUN but everytime I entered services.msc>o.k I got the message that the filename couldn't be found. Played with lots of iterations of it but couldn't get it so I did a search for services and found in in system32. no listing for Toolbar\TBPS

Did a scan and found items 1, 3 and 4 but didn't find item 2, 5, 6. I did see an item cooresponding to SecurityiGuard--which is uninvited and has taken over my desktop display. I took no action with this item.

Here's the scan. Thanks again,

Marc

Hi mlane2250,

Only 1 item more to get rid of.

Here I need you to find the following entries:

O23 - Service: Trace network connections (ACCRA) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mocih.exe (file missing)

Write down, on a piece of paper for the contents of the entire entry above

Close HijackThis.
---------------------------------
3. Now open Service Filter by clicking on its icon.
. Then click OK and OK again when prompted.
. A Wordpad text will appear on your desktop. Scroll down the list of services until you find the service containing the name you wrote down during the preceding procedure.
. For each 023 involved, carefully write down the name that appears beside the label "Service Name". This name will be required in the next step.
. Close the program when finished.
----------------------------
4. Now we need to work from the Command Prompt

Go Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Command Prompt

. A black box will appear with a flashing cursor. At the cursor, type cd.. then cd.. again and repeat the procedure until the writing preceeding the cursor says C:\>

. Now carefully type the following: sc delete servicename, where servicename is replaced by thethe service name that you have written down. Press ENTER. Could be (ACCRA)

.Close the Command Prompt box.
------------------------------------------
Now to stuff we are more familiar with:

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

O23 - Service: Trace network connections (ACCRA) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mocih.exe (file missing)

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file and it them (if it is present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mocih.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren
