want to burn downloaded mpegs files(media player video) to dvd-r discs, i always used CD-R discs with no problem but wanted to try DVD-R discs - after insertion nothing happens, have a dell dimension xps 4600 which has a cd/dvd drive & a DVD-RW rewritble drive, someone please reply on what may be the problem or a possible solution,thanks

If you are trying to burn to DVD-R with Windows XP's built-in cd-burning feature, that is your problem. Without additional third-party software, XP can only write to CD-R/CD-RW, not DVD. You need to buy either Nero 7 or Roxio Easy Media Creator (though the Roxio one is very bloated and takes ages to load unless you have at least 1Gb RAM. Nero is much less demanding on resources.

But like most free software they probably won't have as many features as those you pay for, and can often be more 'buggy'.

sounds like you on the money,have roxio installed but is for cd - not dvd , thanks for the info
